Digital Photo is the most secure type of ID because you can put a picture of the person directly on the card. This type of ID uses a special card design software or design template to print from your computer directly on a PVC card. It requires a dye sublimation printer that can print in full colour. The printer requires a special 4-colour ribbon.
You will also need a digital or video camera, a computer, card-design software, and a video capture board if you’re using a video camera. A system without the computer would retail from about $5,000 and up. This puts the system within the budgets of most organizations.
You can also add card security features such as signatures, holographic overlays or image ghosting to make a card far more difficult to duplicate.
In addition, other security, access control, time and attendance, recording and e-cash capabilities can be added using magnetic striping, proximity cards, bar codes and smart cards.
A digital system is also fast and cost-efficient. Names and information can be typed on a special screen, checked, corrected and then printed. If a logo changes, the new one can be dropped in and a completely new set of cards printed without calling everyone back to have their picture taken. All cards can be printed using the photos and information stored on the computer. Or, if someone loses their card, a new card can be printed and sent via inter-office mail or courier. |
